Blog Entry #8: Reflection & Fabulists

Post Workshop Answers:

1: Now that my story has been workshopped, I'm satisfied. Everyone gave me really good advice that'll surely help me perform a decent bit of surgery on it to improve it all in all. I know I personally didn't speak up much during classes (it changed towards the end more so because I've grown a lot more comfortable in this class and that's more than I can say for most courses I take because I never speak up) but I'll change that around and contribute more in the future.

2: The area I'm going to focus on more in my revisions have to do with the internal conflict, which was there but not completely in depth. There was far more I could've done with it but failed to do so with the first piece so now I've got a chance to improve it all.

3: Everything went well, I can't really name anything aside from the fact everything who spoke up gave me a ton to work with in terms of revision. Hopefully the same goes for workshop #2. That's all I'm hoping for.

4: Savana, Kristin, Karla.

Author Role-Play:

1: Alejo Carpentier was born in Switzerland but grew up in Cuba.

2: His family life was stable until he turned 18, when his parent's marriage fell apart and his father decided to leave home.

3: Carpentier began finding an interest in writing when 1921 rolled around, as he became a cultural journalist while studying in Havana.

4: Carpentier attended the School of Architecture of the University of Havana in 1921, before leaving his studies to try and find work to support his mother. His first job was when he became a cultural journalist, which sparked an interest in writing.

5: Carpentier's biggest influence was not a person, but instead the political and cultural aspects of Havana, Cuba.

My choice selection for his works would be Guerra del tiempo.
